Intro to Ice Dye 9/30

Come bring your pre-washed plant based dyeables to play with. One bin will hold about 6 t-shirts. We will be working with colors on hand. This workshop is an intro to the technique of ice dyeing. A mask is required to prevent inhaling the powder. You will be leaving your work over night. (24hrs) We will schedule your pick up time during class.

Make sure to wash your dyeables before class. They do not need to be dry.

Some ideas-Old sheets, old pillow cases,  t-shirts, lace, vintage lace.....anything plant based, cotton, hemp, silk. Synthetics will not dye with this process. If you have a cotton shirt with white synthetic stitching, the thread will remain white. This is a great process to make one of a kind fabric for quilting.

Oeko-Tex certified low impact fibre reactive dyes are not toxic to humans or the environment. Due to the "covalent bonding" process which occurs, the majority of the dye absorbs into the fabric, so that there's far less runoff/waste elelments than traditional direct dyes.

A small bin will hold 1-2 shirt size items or 5-6 small pieces such as lace or onsies.

A large bin will hold 6 t-shirts or 12 onsies or 2 yards of fabric.
